The Norwegian has also added two titles this year, both on clay (Buenos Aires and Geneva), in addition to other outstanding results such as the final in Miami (which he lost against the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz in ‘hard’) and the semifinal of the Masters 1000 of Roma (defeated by Novak Djokovic on clay).
Ruud dominated the first two sets but Hurkacz, who reached the semifinals at the last Wimbledon, reacted and scored the third.
In the fourth set, the Pole, a player more on fast surfaces than on clay, had his chance to take the match to a decisive fifth set when he broke in the third game, but Ruud returned to play his best tennis to break games 4 and 6 and close out the match.
