The candidate Rodolfo Hernándes, or the popular ‘engineer’, is today one of the most repeated names on the national political scene.
His behavior and results in the presidential elections this May 29 have left many Colombians surprised.
Hernández managed to get more than 800,000 votes ahead of Federico ‘Fico’ Gutiérrez and will go to the second round in June, remaining in the competition for the House of Nariño with Gustavo Petro.
However, beyond the 5,951,220 votes obtained, Hernández has been a candidate who has gone viral on social networks due to his personality, his behavior, his results as mayor of Bucaramanga or many of his statements in the midst of the politic campaign.

One of those controversial and viral episodes took place last February of this year, when a citizen through a video expressed to Hernández his wish that he greet the department of Vichada, but his response was quite particular.
- “For Vichada? What is that?”
In the middle of the recording, the presidential candidate is disoriented, so the man who made the video had to explain what he was talking about:
- “The department of Vichada, in Orinoquía”
But the engineer still did not understand and immediately asked “which is the capital of Vichada?”.
Again the citizen had to respond again, it is “Puerto Carreño”. Finally, Hernández decided to send the much-requested greeting and invited them to vote for him.
- “Ah, well, for Puerto Carreño, in Vichada, a very special greeting. Invite them to join me in the next elections on May 29,” said the engineer.

When the video was made public, Rodolfo Hernández was showered with enormous criticism, in fact many protested and asked “how was it possible that he was a presidential candidate and did not know the country?”
However, he defended himself from his social networks through a video.
- “I apologize to the people of Vichada for my mistake. I want to ask you not to be fooled by those thieving politicians who are to blame for the misery and corruption of the department.. They are the real culprits of Vichada being forgotten for more than 30 years”.
‘El Ingeniero’ took the votes of Vichada
Beyond what many thought or believed, Rodolfo Hernández and Marelen Castillo, their vice-presidential formula, ‘swept’ Vichada.
Hernández and Castillo obtained 39.57% of the vote, some 6,670 out of a total of 16,336 voters.
Data established in bulletin 27 of the National Registry of Civil Status, issued at 6:46 pm and with 100% of tables informed.
