The Union of Nafta Sellers of Uruguay (Unvenu) reported on the night of this May 29 that there was a fuel shortage due to the run that has been generated after the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, stated that it is over Ancap’s “back” so as not to have to increase prices once again.
“Currently the Executive power is analyzing a possible fuel price increase for next June 1st. As usual in these cases, while a price increase is being discussed, customer demand at service stations (motorists, producers, carriers, etc.) increases significantly,” says Unvenu in a statement released to the press this Sunday.
“Ancap was unable to meet the demand at the stations on Saturday 28; on Sunday the 29th, the distribution plants are usually closed and neither will they be closed on Monday the 30th (they have already announced that orders will be cut)”, continued the fuel vendors’ union.
And he added: “in turn, on Tuesday 31 Ancap announced that it will not supply fuel to service stations due to a strike by its officials (a practice that ‘coincidentally’ is becoming common in Ancap prior to an increase in fuel prices.”
