Passport with funeral insurance? Here we tell you how it would work

Passport with funeral insurance? Here we tell you how it would work

The House of Representatives approved this Wednesday, November 24, the presentation of the representative Óscar Darío Pérez, and promoted by Congressman Juan David Vélez, With which it is intended to create an ‘insurance’ that allows the repatriation of Colombian nationals who die abroad.

(These are the changes that will be applied to the issuance of passports).

According to Vélez, from the Democratic Center, The idea of designing a mechanism to guarantee procedures and repatriation has a sense of solidarity, as it would facilitate the process for families who are grieving for the loss of their loved one.

The proposal is summarized in that Colombians pay, together with the cost of issuing their passports, a value that allows to cover the operation of the mechanism (between 8,000 pesos and 16,000 Colombian pesos). By doing so, the traveler will have the repatriation service of the body or ashes covered for 10 years.

(The steps to request the passport and the value for this 2021).

As stated by the representative and the party, yesterday afternoon the project managed to be approved in the 4th debate of the Chamber, therefore now they await conciliation with the Senate of the Republic to make it law.

“Today the House of Representatives approved the last debate of our Bill that establishes the creation of mechanisms to repatriate bodies of nationals who died abroad. Check white thick sign. The only thing missing is conciliation in the Senate of the Republic and the House of Representatives and we will have law “the congressman wrote on his Twitter account.

However, the Foreign Ministry has mentioned that the insurance figures that have been presented are optional and that the objective of the discussion of the project in Congress, in any case, is to evaluate the best options to respond to “These situations that have been identified as a need in the assistance of Colombians” who live outside the country.

In the meantime, it remains to wait for the conciliation to be made in the Senate to know the provisions that will be made against the project and the changes that may be presented so that it enters into force and under what measures.

Currently, On the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is information on the existence of a strategy that disseminates information on the importance of acquiring funeral provision services when living abroad called Red Vuelve, which brings together 10 private companies that provide this type of service.

“Assistance for repatriation in case of calamity, especially due to death, is one of the highest priority needs of the Colombian community abroad”, it reads on the page of the Chancellery.
