In September 2021, the mayor of the city of Florencio Sánchez, Colonia, Alfredo Sánchez (National Party) and eight more people, including relatives of the hierarch and officials of the Municipality, were brought before the Rosario Prosecutor’s Office for crimes against the public administration.
Sánchez was prosecuted for “association to commit crimes and fraud” and sentenced to three years in prison and the suspension of his right to hold public office for two years.
In the last few hours, within the scope of the Constitution and Legislation Commission of the Senate, the government coalition voted to file the case of the mayor of Florencio Sánchez, known as “the one with a thousand gauchadas”.
Dismissal
In this sense, the Frente Amplio legislators voted for impeachment and dismissal, understanding that “within two years he could return to office.”
“It was necessary to give the clear signal of impeachment,” said Senator from the Broad Front, Liliam Kechichian.
For his part, Guillermo Domenech (Open Council) defended the negative vote for impeachment for “a formal legal reason.”
He said that the Senate of the Republic “does not have the power to impeach the members of the municipalities.”
