Argentina confirmed this Friday the first two cases of monkeypox in Latin America, according to press releases from the Ministry of Health of the South American country.
Spain, England and Portugal are the countries with the most cases in the recent outbreak of this usually mild viral illness outside its endemic areas in parts of West and Central Africa.
“The result of the PCR amplification reaction of the case in question is positive,” the Argentine ministry said about the first casewho added that the patient is in good health and his close contacts are under clinical and epidemiological control, without presenting symptoms so far.
In turn, on Friday afternoon, the Argentine government confirmed a second case of monkeypox in the country, a patient residing in Spain who came to visit the country on May 25 and on the 26 began to present ulcerative lesions.
“The patient is in good general condition, isolated, and receiving symptomatic treatment,” the ministry added about the second case.
Most of the infections detected so far in the world have not been serious. Symptoms include fever and a skin rash.
