Members of the Civic Committee for Santa Cruz denounced this Friday an arrest attempt against its president, Rómulo Calvo, which was carried out with an order without date or time. The legal team warned that an attempted “coup against the Civic Committee” is being carried out from La Paz and that the leader is the victim of a “set-up.”
“The president is not only being the victim of a political persecution but of an intimidation towards him and the whole family. In the early hours of the morning there was an attempt to apprehend him, with an order that comes from the city of La Paz, which has no date. of when it has started, (but that) nevertheless, it is already loaded into the judicial system “, informed second vice president of the Committee for Santa Cruz, Stello Cochamanidis, at a press conference.
“Let us be attentive to what may happen. The president is leading his life normally, as he does every day, working – unlike what other people say, who say otherwise. We want to reproach the government for the attitude it has of intimidating people, doing things between roosters and midnight as is the subject of this summons, which is in the city of La Paz, so the Santa Cruz Prosecutor’s Office, once again, is passed over “.

The leader assured that it is intended to lead Calvo to declare in an “illegal and involuntary” manner for complaints “that have no basis” and that come from people who are “totally subservient” to the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS). He said that these maneuvers seek the demobilization of the population, but considers that it only causes the movement to strengthen at the national level.
For his part, Calvo’s lawyer, Jorge Valda, said that the authorities are carrying out a “setup” against the civic, since of the 35 processes that Minister Iván Lima pointed out last week, there are only five open.
“This fact forces us to show the assembly that has been generated against Rómulo Calvo, since thanks to the access to the system that has been had, it has been possible to corroborate that of the 35 processes that have been warned, only 11 exist. Of the 11, two are as complainant and of the nine criminal proceedings we would have two dismissals and two ratified rejections. That is, there are only five open proceedings, “he explained.

“The fact that prosecutors and police officers have been transferred to the city of Santa Cruz without having jurisdiction in this department is already a sign of abuse, of not even respecting the powers that exist and, in the same way, taking away the freedom of a civic leader who has only exercised the right to protest. (…) What is brewing from La Paz is a blow to the Civic Committee, trying to take away our president, “he added.
The civics did not give further details about this alleged attempt to arrest Calvo himself for “security”, but announced that they will present the evidence later and will go to international bodies.
