Relatives of victims requested this Thursday in the Buenos Aires Legislature that the draft “comprehensive law against institutional violence” presented by the Front for All (FdT) be discussed and they affirmed that “it can save lives that are valuable to all”.
The relatives participated in the meeting of the Security Commission of the Legislature, and among them was Félix Demonty, Ezequiel’s brother.
Felix recounted, in this sense, that “in 2002 the Federal Police kidnapped my brother at the exit of a bowling alley with two friends, He took them to the banks of the Riachuelo, where they were brutally beaten and forced to throw themselves into the river.
“Claudio, 14 years old at the time, and Julio, who was 19, were able to get out alive. My brother appeared seven days later in the same waters of the Riachuelo, 20 blocks from the scene of the events,” he recalled.
And, addressing the legislators and legislators, he continued: “I want to make an appeal to your conscience so that this project can be dealt with, first in committee and then in the venue“, and” that it can be law so that they don’t continue killing our boys and girls in the neighborhoods “.
The project for a “comprehensive law against institutional violence” it was presented in May 2021 by legislator Lucía Cámpora (FdT) and bears the signatures of her fellow block members María Bielli, Ofelia Fernández, Victoria Montenegro, Laura Velasco, legislator Claudio Morresi and legislator Lorena Pokoik.
The initiative proposes create complaints reception centers attended by personnel other than the police and a registry of institutional violence that is in charge of classifying the complaints that occur within the scope of the City of Buenos Aires.
Also, establishes training processes on human rights for the City Police and includes “minimum rules” for the participation of this force in public demonstrations, as well as “principles” on the use of firearms.
The mother of Ezequiel and Félix Demonty also participated in the commissionDolores Sigampa, who said that this law “can save lives that are valuable to everyone.”
Sigampa also addressed the legislators and said: “It is your responsibility, because we are part of the City of Buenos Aires and our sons and daughters too.”
In his turn, he spoke Nora Diaz, mother of Camila Arjona, I affirm that her daughter “was killed by a police officer from behind and was five months pregnant” and added: “We ask that you study this law and help it come out so that they do not continue to kill our children and children. I speak on behalf of all the Mothers in Struggle.”
finally intervened Gumercinda, mother of Judith Giménez“a 16-year-old teenager who was murdered in 2007 by a gendarme in Villa 31,” he said when recalling her, and asked the legislators to “accompany the project so that it becomes law.”
“We don’t want the kids in our neighborhoods to continue being victims of institutional violence because they are dark-haired, because they wear a branded cap, because they dress well,” he added.
Mothers in Struggle Against Impunity is a movement made up of relatives of victims of institutional violence.
