The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Santiago Cafiero, highlighted this Thursday that bilateral trade between Argentina and Mexico grew by 50% last year and “The first records of this first quarter of the year tell us that Argentine exports increased by more than 90%“.
This is how Cafiero declared himself after leading a working meeting in Mexico City together with his Mexican counterpart, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, and other authorities from both states.
During the meeting, the officials analyzed the possibilities of expanding and diversifying trade between the two countries, increasing reciprocal investments and cooperating in the development of the lithium value chain, both in industrialization and in the generation of efficient and sustainable technologies.
In that sense, Cafiero stressed at a press conference that “for us it is essential to sustain and strengthen our strategic relationship with Mexico, that is the command of President Alberto Fernández and it is the fraternal embrace that we have with the entire Mexican people.”
And he stressed that, in commercial matters, “Argentina and Mexico have been developing and growing bilateral trade in recent years: last year it grew an average of 50%, and the first records for this first quarter of the year tell us that exports Argentine imports increased by more than 90% and imports from Mexico have also been increasing”.
The chancellor also highlighted the potential of both countries as “stable providers of food and energy. We found common projects that will guarantee access to our peoples and also in Latin America and the Caribbean. That is the challenge we have and there I put in the first place the bond that both presidents have , to think of a world and a region that are fairer, more supportive and more united”he indicated.
Along these lines, he praised the role of both nations in multilateral forums, stating that “they always raise the voice of emerging countries, of developing economies in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
“There we always find ourselves agreeing. Our countries are firming up the position of a region that continues to be very unequal and that is striving to develop and improve the lives of all its inhabitants,” Cafiero said.
The head of Argentine diplomacy also made reference to the IX Summit of the Americas to be held between June 6 and 10 in the city of Los Angeles, United States, explaining that “Argentina’s position is clear that all countries of the region participate in it. Exercising the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC, our country has been raising the need for it to be a Summit without exclusions and for all voices to be heard”.
In recent days, the United States has discussed the presence of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua at the summit.
Finally, about CELAC, Cafiero stressed that “it should be taken into account that it is a forum where all countries participate, are respected and all voices are heard. There is not always consensus, but from that diversity comes the strength that we have found in all these years to continue with a model of Latin American and Caribbean integration based on respect for others.”
With the aim of deepening the commercial link, the Foreign Minister is making an official visit to the North American country together with the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Cecilia Todesca Bocco.
Within the framework of his agenda, a meeting with the Secretary of the Treasury of Mexico, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, “with the aim of deepening the bilateral relationship and opening the market of that country for Argentine products” was also announced for today. .
