With the announcement of numerous novelties and the sale of books, the thirtieth edition of the Book Fair in Santiago de Cuba was inaugurated today, Thursday.
Among the main novelties of the event stand out the titles I didn’t want to be queenby Teresa Melo, Cat’s clawby Jose Orpi the forces of the worldby Yunier Riquenes, and the painting on Santiago de Cuba during the colonyby María Teresa Fleitas, all published by Editorial Oriente.
From early on, Enramadas and Heredia streets, the city’s main cultural arteries, evidenced the return of the book and literature festival after two years of the pandemic.
In the Allegro interactive cultural center, located in the old Cine Oriente, the expo-sale of books and handicrafts and the exchange with students and professors of the Universidad de Oriente of the Cuba-Belgium Heritage doctorate took place.
Gretchen Menéndez, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, said that although the core of the event will take place in the historic center, it will also reach communities in the Santiago de Cuba municipality, universities, military schools and the Boniato prison.
The thirtieth edition of the Fair, which began on April 20 in Havana with Mexico as the guest country, will end on Sunday May 29 in Santiago after several days of activities with the writers León Estrada and Reynaldo García, for their 60 years of age and for his contributions to books and literature from Santiago.
