Cabo Rojo, Pedernales. – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, gave the first floor for the construction of Port Cabo Rojo in Pedernales, an initiative that is part of the development master plan of this border province, and which contemplates the generation of more than five thousand jobs, direct and indirect, which will allow renewing and boosting the economy of the southern region of the country.
The work, which will be carried out with a private investment of US$ 98 million, via a loan from the Banco de Reservas, will have the capacity to receive up to one million cruise passengers a year.
“Pedernales will be the most important cruise destination in the Caribbean, here is a paradise with its own name, its sun, its beaches, its natural setting and its people are ready to conquer the world. With the operation of Port Cabo Rojo, we are on the right path to convert the Dominican Republic into the Cruise Hub of the Caribbean”, highlighted President Abinader.
The executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), Jean Luis Rodríguez, stressed that in a first phase this terminal will generate about a thousand direct and indirect jobs and in the operation phase it will reach between 1,500 and 2,160 indirect jobs, which will renew and will boost the southern region and the border area.
“Upon completion of the total construction and start-up of Port Cabo Rojo, we will be able to receive up to a million cruise passengers a year, and those million passengers, when they get off their cruise ships, will find a wonderful structure, with a design urban-architectural that will contain representative elements of the Dominican culture, as well as attractive services that will allow the cruise passenger to have a sample of all the activities that are available to them in the surroundings of the port”, said Rodríguez.
The Port Cabo Rojo cruise terminal in Pedernales, whose inauguration is scheduled for December 2023, will be managed by the Dominican Port Authority together with ITM Group, an investment company.
“ITM Group’s commitment is to work with the cruise lines and bring more than one million passengers a year to this great destination, which will generate regional dynamism and an economic spillover that will reach between 120 and 150 million dollars. ITM will invest in Pedernales and surrounding areas to publicize its socially responsible and sustainable projects that contribute to caring for the environment”, stated Mauricio Hamui, CEO of ITM Group.
The Port Cabo Rojo will have an urban-architectural design, containing representative elements of the Dominican culture. This Project contemplates an offer of aquatic, cultural, artistic, commercial, gastronomic attractions and tourist services within the terminal that allow the passenger to have a sample of the activities that are available to them in the surroundings of the port.
The cruise terminal will also have four docking positions, a passenger reception center, water park, Interactive zone, recreational zone and commercial zone, Spa, main restaurant, Boutique Hotel, maintenance area and beach area.
