The Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo Da Silveira, spoke about the unemployment in educationset by the guild for June 15.
The measurement was taken by Phenapes, and one of its tasks is the recovery of salary losses. Like the creation of charges and reject the imposition of changes in education. The head of the education and culture portfolio said that this is “one more blow to the students” of the Uruguayan education system.
“We all work so that students learn, so that they have opportunities in life. These kinds of measures do precisely what matters most, which is the students. When one sees the justifications, there is no specific and concrete reason that justifies a measure of this type”, explained Da Silveira.
Later, he stated that there is an “absolutely fanciful calculation” in relation to the “supposed” budget cut. The minister’s statements were recorded by Radio Montecarlo.
A measure “of force” said Da Silveira
“A figure was pointed out without any justification, I think that’s it, it’s a show of force.” Regarding the closure, he stated that the nutrition of the students will be affected and pointed out that “it is rare” that organizations that claim to be in favor of sensitivity and social justice “take this kind of measure.”
On June 15, a national strike in education was decreed for 24 hours. The general secretary of the National Federation of Secondary Education Teachers (Phenapes), José Olivera, said last Wednesday about the measure that will be carried out in 19 days.
In this way all the branches of the area will make a national strike. The decision made by the workers’ union will be preceded by a mobilization.
