The United States delivers a donation valued at more than 50 thousand dollars to the Meritorious Fire Department of Nicaragua

The United States, through its ambassador in Nicaragua, announced a donation amounting to a total of 57,000 dollars in humanitarian goods granted to the Meritorious Fire Department (BCB) in aid “for those most in need.”

The donation was delivered by the United States ambassador to Nicaragua, Kevin Sullivan, which was facilitated by the Denton Humanitarian Assistance Program, which transports humanitarian donations from the North American country to impoverished countries in the region. “Very excited to be able to facilitate this donation valued at US$57,000 of humanitarian goods. These donations will help those most in need,” Sullivan said through his Twitter account.

The Embassy explained that the donation had a weighing of 13,454 kilograms in humanitarian goods and two ambulances that will support the work of the Estelí firefighters. The donation was delivered through joint efforts between the United States Agency for International Development, the State Department, the Security Cooperation Agency and the Department of Defense.

Between 2020 and 2021, humanitarian organizations in the United States donated more than $569,000 to Nicaraguan organizations. During the effects of hurricanes Eta and Iota, phenomena that impacted Nicaragua at the end of 2020, the North American country helped more than 100,000 affected people.

“Assistance from the United States government for hurricanes Eta and Iota has reached more than 100,000 people in Jinotega and the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCN). I have seen how our nutrition and health programs helped them survive,” said the US diplomat.

He added that “the United States is committed to supporting the communities of Nicaragua.” The North American country would have distributed a total of six million six hundred thousand dollars to guarantee the subsistence of part of those affected, according to the information provided by Sullivan himself.

In a video released through his official Twitter account, the American diplomat assured in 2021 that he had traveled to Bilwi, Matagalpa and Jinotega, where the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was supporting to rebuild those regions, after having suffered serious floods and landslides caused by Eta and Iota, which also caused the loss of their work instruments.
