Cuba: Injuries recover from the explosion at the Saratoga hotel

None of those injured in the explosion at the Saratoga hotelin Havana, on May 6, are already in critical or serious condition, according to the island’s health authorities.

In accordance with this thursday’s part of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), 11 injured, four of them minors, remain hospitalized as a result of the disaster that cost the lives of 46 people.

Both the seven adults admitted and the four minors are now reported for care, while 42 patients have already been discharged, the MINSAP specifies.

The four minors are hospitalized in the Juan Manuel Márquez pediatric hospital, while the adults are distributed among four hospitals in Havana, including the Cira García International Clinic. The Spaniard César Román Santalla remains there, a couple of the also Spanish Cristina López-Cerón and one of those killed in the explosion caused by a gas leak, according to investigations still underway.

As is known, the impact of the blast wave destroyed not only the central Havana hotel, but also damaged 17 other adjoining buildings that are being evaluated to determine if they can be recovered or should be demolished, recalls a report from the agency EFE.

Among the fatalities of the explosion are 42 adults, including a pregnant woman, and four children under 18 years of age.

After the event, which shocked all of Cuba and prompted numerous messages of condolences and solidarity throughout the world, rescue brigades kept working for several days in search of the people reported missing. Finally, after the discovery of the last lifeless bodies, the Cuban government decreed two days of official mourning.

The Saratoga was built in 1880 and from 1911 it functioned as a hotel. His last restoration took place in 2005, when the building was reformed in depth, details EFE about the iconic facility destroyed by the disaster.
