Ministry of Health proposes to create a Medicines Authority

The creation of the Medicines Authority was one of the proposals that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) brought to the National Concertation Table, with the aim of improving the process of acquiring medicines in the country.

According to Alessandro Ganci, advisor to the Superior Office of the Minsa, the objective is to find ways to acquire medicines at more accessible prices, improve the care of the least favored people and optimize health resources that are limited.

“We have proposed the creation of the Medicines Authority and who will be its members, the effective coordination of health services with the Social Security Fund and the new mechanisms and technological tools such as electronic prescriptions and digital dispatch that allows people with disabilities or physical limitations not to have to attend health facilities,” said Ganci.

For his part, Bruno Garisto, executive secretary of the National Concertation Council, assured that the proposals agreed at the national level by different government institutions are being followed up and verified.

“We are indicating the focal points to resolve the issue of drug supply and its offer to the public, the issues of homologation between MINSA and the Social Security Fund and that there is access to health as a human and proper right,” Garisto said.

Representatives of the Association of Political Parties were present at the table, as well as ecclesiastical leaders of the main churches in the country, members of the Chamber of Commerce and representatives of patients and users.
