Air traffic: “We cannot deny the tons of drugs that cross the skies”

Hoy Paraguay

Deputy Raúl Latorre commented that the bill that was approved yesterday in Deputies seeks to strengthen surveillance of airspace and thus combat drug trafficking.

“It is essential to reorganize the security forces to confront terrorism and organized crime, which have left many families in mourning. We must readjust our response capacity and our legislative framework, in that sense we cannot deny the tons of drugs that cross the skies every day”, argued the designer about the reason for presenting this proposal.

In an interview with the channel GEN – Nación Media, he expressed that there are many shortcomings in terms of aerial surveillance due to the lack of equipment, which requires significant investment and political will to put the law into practice.

Latorre mentioned that the regulation in question proposes to verify the aircraft that are considered suspicious, those that do not plan the flight plan or the one that goes to an inappropriate height. He expressed that it is a joint effort with the security authorities.

In a talk with the radio Universo 970 – Nación Media, the Colorado politician deepened that the need to adapt our internal security to emerging threats, such as drug trafficking, must be understood. “The readjustment of the legislative framework is the first step in the quest to gain airspace,” he said.

He stressed that we are going to continue losing the fight against drug trafficking by a landslide if we do not strengthen our security system. “It is a matter of defense and national sovereignty. We have to have planes that exceed the speed of those planes used for drug trafficking, ”he specified.
