Pietragalla will meet with the Secretary of State for the files on the dictatorship

Pietragalla Corti will meet with the Vatican Secretary of State.

The Secretary of Human Rights, Horacio Pietragalla Corti, will meet on Friday with the Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, to seek progress in the digitalization of the archives that the Holy See has on the last Argentine civic-military dictatorship.

“I am going to meet with Secretary of State Pietro Parolin for the dialogue to be able to digitize and work on archives that the Vatican could have” about the time of the last dictatorship, Pietragalla Corti said in dialogue with Télam in Rome.

“We have been working from the Argentine State with the archives that the Vatican has since the management of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner”

“We have been working from the Argentine State with the archives that the Vatican has since the management of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, which was interrupted during the previous, neoliberal government, which suspended many of the policies that had been carried out,” the official reviewed.

By decision of Pope Francis, the Vatican ordered in 2016 the declassification of the archives, mostly letters, that the Holy See has in its possession on the years of the last civic-military dictatorship in the country, between 1976 and 1983.

Pietragalla Corti participated this Thursday in the discovery in Rome of a mosaic with the image of a handkerchief of the Grandmothers and Plaza de Mayo in the Italian capital together with the ambassador Roberto Carlés, the member of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo – Founding Line Taty Almeida and the mayor of the “eternal city”, Roberto Gualtieri.

The Secretary of Human Rights also announced that “in October there will be a visit by UNESCO members to the Museum of Memory for the ex-Esma’s nomination for World Heritage status,” a campaign that is being carried out around the world.

“This would represent a symbolic and reparative gesture not only for Argentina but for the countries that suffered the same crimes throughout the Great Homeland”Pietragalla Corti argued.

“The campaign does not have to do only with highlighting the physical place, but with a contribution to counteract hate speech and denial,” he added.
