Heavy transport and agriculture ask to unlock and ensure diesel supply

After three days of blockade in San Julián, on the route that connects Santa Cruz with Trinidad, a heavy transport sector and a leader of the Santa Cruz productive apparatus They ask the Police to clear the road so as not to put at risk the food security of the inhabitants of the Chiquitano municipalities and the department of Beni. In addition, they ask the Government to guarantee the supply of diesel, mainly the cane growers who started the harvest in the Integrated North a couple of weeks ago.

“We are completely helpless. Blockades not only affect the rotation of trucks and leave losses in the pockets of transporters in the sector, they compromise economic recovery and, of course, they endanger the food supply on the Bolivian table,” said the representative of the Santa Cruz Heavy Transport Federation, Juan Yujra, asking law enforcement to intervene the blockade and clear the road.

On the supply of diesel, the transport leader asked the Government to act responsibly and guarantee the fuel so as not to affect the mobilization of rice and cattle from Beni and the forestry production that comes from communities of Chiquitano municipalities.

In the agricultural field, from the National Confederation of Sugarcane Growers of Bolivia (Concabol), President Óscar Alberto Arnez, indicated that, for now, the gap in the sale of diesel does not register a negative impact because the harvest has not yet reached the maximum harvest peak that they estimate will occur in June.

However, he said that in Some pumps that operate in the area of influence of the sugar mills of the Integrated North have begun to record intermittent sales of this fuel. “That puts us on alert because the machinery and trucks that transport the raw material from the field to the mills run on diesel,” he said.

A consulted cane grower warned that stop one day, be it due to a blockage or lack of diesel, it would be disastrous for the sector and the other links that make up the sugar agro-industrial chain. He asked the Police to intervene and clear the route to give certainty.

food risk

From the Chamber of Exporters, Logistics and Investment Promotion of Santa Cruz (Cadex), they report that more than 450 trucks daily mobilize 10,250 tons of cargo of export products, of all the productive sectors that need diesel to fulfill the commitments with international buyers and return to the country for a new cycle.

In relation to the San Julián conflict, they warn that it is affecting the productive and export sector, since this region has a productive food vocation and through it pass meat and agricultural products that arrive to supply the internal market, as well as to transform them for export.

From the Federation of Private Entrepreneurs of Beni, President Jorge Núñez del Prado, expressed that blockades and delays in the delivery of diesel affect the agricultural sector that cannot send the production of rice, cattle and fish that generates the region; to the industrial, because it cannot be supplied with raw materials and supplies and spare parts; to transportation, because they lose income by not carrying out the freight of merchandise; and to trade because they cannot receive their merchandise.

On the diesel issue, in a statement, the state oil company reported that in recent days there were delays in deliveries due to blockades and the non-compliance with shipments by the supplier company Petroperú, which caused the delay in the arrival of cargo.
