With the installation of this new regional vaccine distribution center, GSK adds another milestone in its more than 80 years of presence in the country, promoting the development of the pharmaceutical industry and providing solutions for the population.
Logistics hub for vaccines
Uruguay is one of the three countries chosen by GSK globally for the installation of its logistics hub for vaccines.
It will be installed in Latin America Cargo City, located at the Carrasco International Airport, where the company already has a logistics space since 2021 for the distribution of the firm’s pharmaceutical products.
This new regional distribution center will make it possible to have available the vaccines that will arrive by sea from the plants in Europe to be distributed from here to six countries in South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay).
In this way, it will make it easier for the vaccines to be closer to their final destinations in order to optimize delivery times, strengthen the control process of the cold chain during transport, and reduce carbon emissions in the logistics process.
The project implies a significant increase in the volumes that will be circulating throughout the country, estimated at 12 million units.
The choice of Uruguay to carry out this project was leveraged by the political and macroeconomic stability it provides, added to the high levels of transparency, the advances in connectivity, the geographical location, the excellent installed capacity to provide specialized logistics services and the existence of a regulatory framework that allows business development, it was indicated from the signing
The installation of this distribution center is one more step in the advancement of commercial relations between Uruguay and the United Kingdom, allowing the country and the region to benefit from access to pharmaceutical products and vaccines of the highest quality to treat and prevent a variety of diseases that affect millions of patients in these countries and in turn have a direct impact on the generation of employment and development of the sector.
