Mexicans turn to their credit card to fight inflation

Mexicans turn to their credit card to fight inflation

The Banking Situation report for the first quarter of 2022 details that with an inflation figure of 7.58% in the first half of May, Mexicans are seeing a lag in the purchasing power of their salary and therefore resort to financing.

Serrano said that although this practice is not sustainable for clients, they do not expect a significant increase in delinquencies.

Experts have pointed out that one of the worst mistakes a person can make is to buy products with credit that last less than a month, as is the case with food.

The placement of credit will face other challenges in the future, such as the increase in reference rates made by the Bank of Mexico.

BBVA estimates that the reference rate will reach up to 9%.
