Pereira: The government is nervous about the referendum against 135 articles of the LUC

In the Del Sol radio station’s Double Click program, Pereyra recalled that he has been a militant life and has gone through a few referendums, but he had never seen one that the one who built the Law convened, a year and a half later, to journalists to explain the law”.

“We start from the basis that the Law is a product not known even by the majority of Uruguayan journalists. We have said that a law of this volume, with 500 articles, could not vote in a pandemic because it would end up being practically unknown by Uruguayans, “he recalled.

Pereira said that the LUC “changes extremely important aspects of people’s lives.”

He also remarked that he had never seen a president participate in a referendum campaign.

Nervousness

“This, together with statements referring to the fact that if the 135 contested articles are repealed, we will return to what was the Soviet Union, or that thousands of Uruguayans will be released from prisons or that we agree that there is no record of violators, when that article is not one of those who are questioned, it shows nervousness, because the popular movement was not expected to reach 800,000 signatures, “he said.

Pereira said that the referendum “paralyzed other discussions such as the reform of social security or the increase in fuels.”
