In the story that she broadcast to the media through audio, the lawyer’s daughter pointed out that on May 20, when Urbina was visited by his relatives, they saw him beaten. “My father was attacked, beaten and tortured, like the rest of the political prisoners and now he is in very poor health,” she described.
He also reproached that until this month the Ortega dictatorship allowed him to have contact with the political prisoner. “We did not have any information about my father, they just did not want – the authorities of La Modelo – the family to see the inhumane treatment they committed with my father and they wanted to cover up what happened,” he explained.
“As a daughter, I feel dismayed and I repudiate the inhumane acts of rape against my father. He was brutally beaten and from so many blows that the Waswalí guards gave him, in Matagalpa, he became unconscious and his health is very delicate », he added.
Given these acts of human rights violations against Urbina Lara, his daughter called on human rights organizations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to take pertinent measures to protect the life of her father and that of all political hostages, “since he has suffered irreparable damage to his health that affects his emotional, physical and psychological state.”

On May 4, the 59-year-old jurist was transferred to the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System in Tipitapa, after being confined for more than a year in the Waswalí prison, in Matagalpa, his relatives reported at that time to Article 66.
The lawyer and critic of the Daniel Ortega regime is still in detention, despite the fact that the Jinotega Local Criminal Judge, Diana Isabel Jarquín Valle, ordered his release in a preliminary hearing —in February 2021—, a decision that she revoked hours later.
