Consumer confidence drops 3.1 points in May, says FGV

Household Consumption Intention grows for the fifth month

The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC), calculated by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), dropped 3.1 points from April to May this year. The drop came after the March-April 3.8-point rise.Consumer confidence drops 3.1 points in May, says FGV

As a result, the indicator reached 75.5 points, on a scale from zero to 200 points. The FGV data were released today (25).

According to FGV, the drop in the ICC was influenced by the worsening expectations of Brazilian consumers for the coming months. The Expectations Index dropped 5.1 points and reached 81 points, mainly due to assessments of the family’s financial situation in the coming months.

The Current Situation Index, which assesses confidence in the present, remained stable at 69.1 points.

According to FGV researcher Viviane Seda Bittencourt, the results of the last few months show that inflation and the difficulty of finding a job continue to have a negative impact on families.
