7-0: Emelec scores, goes to the round of 16 and Rescalvo breathes

Emelec He agreed this Tuesday to the round of 16 of the Libertadores Cup after beating the Bolivian 7-0 Oil Independenta result that gave him peace of mind to the Spanish coach Ismael Rescalvo, after criticism for the recent elimination in the local tournament.

Alejandro Cabeza, on two occasions; the Uruguayan Sebastián Rodríguez, also with a double; José Francisco Cevallos, Joao Rojas and the Argentine Mauro Quiroga scored the goals for Emelec.

The footballing superiority allowed Emelec to secure second place in Group A, since the first place was in the hands of the two-time champion of the tournament, the Brazilian Palmeiras, who left the group stage undefeated and won 4-1 over Deportivo Táchira.

Emelec, who had barely reached the opposite goal, converted the first goal with a shot from close range by attacker Cabeza, at minute 17, after a series of touches of the ball by his teammates and bad rejections by the visiting defense.

Another timely action by Cabeza allowed Emelec to widen the score, when he scored the second from close range and from a dive, in the 35th minute, after a shot by Joao Rojas that goalkeeper Hugo Ayala was unable to control in the presence of the scorer.

Emelec’s scoring midfielder, the Uruguayan Rodríguez, shot from outside the area over goalkeeper Ayala, in the 38th minute, to convert the best goal of the game. Emelec’s fourth goal came in the 45th minute, with a strong shot from midfielder Cevallos, who took advantage of defender Eddie Guevara’s deflection of the ball.

Defensive solutions without prize

The Argentine-Bolivian coach Marcelo Robledo tried to strengthen the defensive system to avoid more goals, with the entry just beginning the second half of goalkeeper Alex Arancibia, Juan Pablo Rioja and Luis Ali, who entered for Hugo Ayala, Yesit Martínez and Diago Giménez, respectively .

However, the Emelec players seemed to have a pact with the goal, as striker Rojas took advantage of a pass from the other end by Colombian Alexis Zapata and finished at will to defeat goalkeeper Alex Arancibia, in the 53rd minute.

Rodríguez, the Argentine striker for Emelec who replaced Cabeza, converted the sixth in the 75th with a header. The seventh goal was once again the work of Uruguayan Rodríguez, with a low shot that slipped past goalkeeper Arancibia.
