In May of last year, Morabito was arrested by the Federal Police (PF) in João Pessoa and then transferred to the Federal Penitentiary in Brasília, where he is being held. In March of this year, the collegiate ordered the extradition of the Italian. In today’s session, the class judged an appeal by the defense, which claimed nullities during the course of the process.

Unanimously, the ministers rejected the appeal and ordered the end of the extradition process. The federal government will be responsible for handing over Rocco Morabito to the Italian authorities.

According to the Supreme Court’s decision, Italy must comply with some requirements required by Brazilian legislation in cases of extradition, such as deferring prison time in national territory and applying the maximum period of 30 years of serving a sentence.

In Italy, Morabito was sentenced to more than 100 years in prison in cases of international drug trafficking.

According to Interpol, he is an influential member of the Ndrangheta and was the liaison between Brazilian criminal organizations and the Italian mafia.
