The number of exporting companies in the country, led by women, grew by 7% during the economic recovery period, going from 454 in 2020 to 486 this year, according to the second edition of the study “Women in Export: Towards the export resilience ”.
Biviana Riveiro, director of the Center for Exportation and Investment of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), the institution that produced the report, added that it is evident that between January and September of last year the exported value was US $ 1,362.4 million and that for the same period of In 2021, the amount increased by US $ 110.5 million, reaching US $ 1,472.9 million, an increase of 8%.
In 2020, 63% of these exports went to Europe and 22% to North America. In the case of Europe, in the last three years exports have grown by 250%, going from US $ 141.1 million in 2018 to US $ 1,197.4 million last year.
Between January and September of this year, the main destinations for exports of companies led by women were Switzerland, with 56%; India, with 31%; Haiti, with 4% and the United States with 3%.
“We are convinced that exporting companies have a greater impact on the development of the economy. The participation of women in the productive sectors generates new levels of equity, increases productive participation and expands the capacity to respond to the demands of international markets, all this within a context of pandemic ”, declared Riveiro
In the presentation of the report, in which the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, among other officials, participated, companies led by women that had a good performance in the last year were recognized.
The recognized companies were Halka Industrial SRL, Effects LMR and Grupo Altamira SRL.
