President Alberto Fernández celebrated this Monday the return of the image of the heroes and heroines of the country to legal circulation banknotes, affirming that the currency is a “symbol of sovereignty and an instrument of economic policy” to which this Government “will never resign”.

This was expressed by Fernández when heading this afternoon at the Casa de Gobierno Bicentennial Museum the act of presentation of the new family of banknotes that will recover the figures of María Eva Duarte de Perón ($100), Martín Miguel de Güemes and Juana Azurduy ($200), María Remedios del Valle and Manuel Belgrano ($500) and José de San Martín ($1,000).

In an act in which the president of the Central Bank, Miguel Ángel Pesce, and the head of the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP), Mercedes Marcó del Pont, along with a dozen governors, Fernández affirmed that “the peoples who forgot their history many times made the same mistakes”, understanding that the exchange of banknotes will allow society to “recover the memory”

The current model called “Animals” came into circulation in mid-2016, during the administration of Mauricio Macri, when the Central Bank (BCRA) issued bills with pieces of native fauna.

“The Fathers of the Nation and the Mothers of the Nation have returned to Argentine banknotes. We are putting our best men and best women who gave everything to make this country what it is,” celebrated the President.

In the same sense, Fernández asserted: “The currency is a symbol of sovereignty and it is an instrument of economic policy that we will never renounce, despite the fact that many have wanted us to resign.”

The Central Bank, together with the Casa de Moneda, designed a new family of banknotes that marks the return of historical personalities to paper money.

The new family is made up of four denominations of 50, 100, 200 and 500 pesos, which include the representation of three women and three men who played a decisive role in the construction of the countrytranscendent figures who broke the mold of their time and fought for independence, development, inclusion and the expansion of rights.

As a unique and innovative element, two of the denominations pay homage to two personalities on the same ticket.

Along with the recovery of historical personalities, another novelty in this family is that the banknotes return to their horizontal format reading on both sides, and maintain the color palette for each denomination and retain the size of the current ones, with which will coexist

In this regard, Pesce explained that the new banknotes will be “put into circulation in about six months” in order to complete the ongoing public purchasing processes, and the replacement of the existing ones “will be progressive as the current ones deteriorate”. .

For his part, Marcó del Pont highlighted the recovery 10 years ago of the powers of the Central Bank of “all its full and sovereign capacities, to get involved in the problems of development, inclusion, growth, work and employment.”

Marcó del Pont also pointed out that the challenge for the currency is “to achieve stability, to return to being a store of value, advance in the de-dollarization of this so central problem that the Argentine economy has of bi-monetaryism”.

“Contrary to what they want to tell us about giving up powers in monetary sovereignty, to guarantee that stability associated with a country that grows and produces and generates employment, we need a sovereign Central Bank and we are on that path,” concluded Marcó del Pont.
