The Supreme Court declares the figure of superdelegates constitutional

The figure of the superdeladagos “does not transgress the constitutional principle of federalism,” said Minister Loretta Ortiz Ahlf. Her vote was the one that broke the tie in the SCJN.

The objective of the links between the federal government and the states “is to make the public service more efficient by being attached hierarchically and organically to the Ministry of Welfare, and in turn, under the command of the General Coordination of Development Programs,” he said.

Ministers Arturo Zaldívar, Yasmín Esquivel, Ana Margarita Ríos, Alberto Pérez Dayán and Javier Laynez also voted in favor.

The government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador will be able to keep the 32 delegates in the entities.

Since its creation, the figure of the so-called superdelegates generated controversy, because the opposition assured that this position would serve as a platform to train candidates for governor.
