This May 20, the Ortega justice was in charge of ratifying the sentence against the opposition and activist Ana Margarita Vijil who was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Through its Twitter account, the Legal Defense Unit (UDJ) reported that “Criminal Chamber 1 of the TAM (Managua Court of Appeals) confirms the conviction against Ana Margarita Vijil by declaring without merit the appeal filed by the defense. Vijil faced a marathon trial, which began on Wednesday, February 2, at eight in the morning and ended at night. The hearing was held at the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote” in Managua, where the regime’s hostage has been held captive since June 13, 2021.

For its part, the family of sportswriter Miguel Mendoza is concerned about his state of health due to the constant physical and psychological torture to which he is subjected. In the recent visit that his relatives were able to make to the prisoner of conscience, they were able to verify the conditions in which the sports writer is found. They assured that “things are still the same or worse” because he told them that he has high blood pressure problems. “That worries us because it can cause later problems,” said the journalist’s brother, Ramón Mendoza.

Political prisoner Víctor Hugo Tinoco was recently changed from prison to house arrest due to severe health complications. In past interviews, Cristian Tinoco, daughter of another member of the Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos), pointed out that his father had hypertension and leukopenia.
