The Ministry of the Interior responded this Monday through a statement to the claim made by the president of Peñarol, Ignacio Ruglio – who denounced that the police had denied the entry of partisans who wore badges of the search for disappeared detainees to the Champion of the Century – asking him apologies for what happened.
“In response to the letter from the president of Club Atlético Peñarol, Juan Ignacio Ruglio, the Ministry of the Interior reports that the authorities of the Secretary of State contacted Ruglio last night to inform him of what happened on Saturday the 21st and what was resolved, requesting the excuses of the case”, announced the portfolio.
Sources from the Ministry of the Interior had told The Observer that his main authorities had communicated with Ruglio and that the problem had been “clarified”.
The events denounced by the aurinegro president happened last Saturday, May 21, in the game against Boston River.
The president of the club reported on “dozens of comments about supposed officials of the Violence in Sports Unit of the Montevideo Headquarters who, without any identification in sight, nor presenting themselves as such, prevented Peñarol fans from entering with t-shirts that contained symbols or badges with daisies without a petal”, a representative image of the search for the disappeared detainees.
Following the complaint, the Montevideo Police Headquarters started an administrative investigationsaid to The Observer the capital’s police chief, Mario D’Elía.
