The Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, assured this Monday that “unity is possible to avoid being stepped on by empires, if the things that divide us are left aside.”
This Monday, Padrino López installed in the Municipal Theater of Caracas, the Bicentennial International Colloquium of the Battle of Pichincha whose motto is Our north is the south.
“It is never too late, 200 years later it will not be too late for us to tell the world with the idea and the voice, here in Pichincha wills from all countries came together,” said Padrino.
“Union for a greater purpose is possible, to avoid being stepped on by the empires of yesterday, today and any time,” he said.
In his opinion, “it is possible, if we put aside the things that divide us.”
The Battle of “Pichincha calls us to reflection, to the practice of union, leaving aside pettiness and differences. Let’s take the example of Bolívar, let’s take his ideas that are more valid today than ever”, he stressed.
This activity will take place this Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24, and will be attended by invited intellectuals from around the world and members of the History, Memory and Heritage Network.
Minister Padrino López said that this generation “is fully aware of what we are experiencing.”
“We are traveling the bicentennial roads, of those events that marked the future of this vast region, of this great nation and great nations.”
He explained that Pichincha “was the vital space for building power, based on territory, population, wealth. That grandiose dream of Bolívar, of Colombia, the great one, was a vital space.”
“Once seen the hegemonic intentions of the northern provinces, the Liberator summed up the need to build a vital counterweight space to the expansionist interests of the north.”
“That is why – he continued – Bolívar thinks, in that thought of vital space, with a facade to the Atlantic, the Caribbean, the Pacific, Andean, Amazon.”
“Today we are facing another Pichincha battle, that is why it is a continental battle, against imperialism and hegemonism, it is Bolivianism against the Monroeist vision,” he stressed.
For Padrino, this colloquium “will be fruitful, beautiful and will not be wasted. Go ahead with this colloquium. Long live Venezuela and long live Pichincha.”

Likewise, he highlighted the importance of the execution of the colloquium in Caracas, as it is the “cradle of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, who left us the freedom, sovereignty and independence” of the country.
“We have to permanently guarantee independence and sovereignty,” and more so here in Caracas, where there is so much diversity and love for freedom.
As acts prior to the colloquium and the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Pichincha, which will take place this Tuesday, May 24, on Sunday at the National Pantheon, a floral offering was offered to the Liberator Simón Bolívar, by the president of the Center for Simón Bolívar Studies, Alejandro López.
