A balance sheet released today (23) by the Internal Revenue Service points out that, by 11 am, 25,094,079 people had already submitted their Personal Income Tax (IRPF) 2022 returns, base year 2021.
The number equates to about 73% of the total of 34.1 million expected declarations. The deadline for submitting the declaration is May 31. That same day, the first refund batch begins to be paid.
“Do not leave to the last minute. Eight days before the deadline for submitting the declaration, it is good to warn that anyone who is obliged to deliver the declaration and does not do so by the end of the deadline will be subject to a fine “, warned the Revenue in a note.

The amount of the fine is 1% per month, on the amount of income tax due, limited to 20% of the amount of income tax. The minimum amount of the fine is R$ 165.74.
The penalty is generated at the time of delivery of the declaration and the release notification is together with the delivery receipt. The taxpayer will have 30 days to pay. After this period, interest on arrears (Selic rate) begins to run.
In the case of declarations entitled to a refund, if the fine is not paid within the due date, it will be deducted, with the respective interest, from the amount of the tax to be refunded.
