The Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Nicolás Kreplak, referred this Monday to the suspected case of monkey pox in the province, about which it was possible to notify that it is “potentially confirmed”.
The suspected case of monkey poxwould have occurred in a man resident in the province of Buenos Aires, who recently arrived in the country of Spain, where he could be infected with the virus.
In this regard, the minister pointed out “there is a suspicious case that comes from an outbreak area, it is in isolation and we will see in a few days or a few hours if it is or not monkey pox”.
Under this premise, The president added that “this is not the time for an escalation of massive infections, but we are observing it”this given that the new disease has been detected in several countries.
In addition, the minister stressed that smallpox is “a highly contagious disease that has been eradicated for many years as a result of vaccines”; however, experts point out that the lack of immunity could trigger the cases.
As for whether or not the virus will cause a new pandemic, Kreplak inferred that at the moment that is “unknown”; In addition, he warned that the only confirmed case in America was registered in the United States and is being monitored.
For this reason, the health authorities point out that for the moment, “the population should not be alerted”, because if necessary, measures will be taken. For now, the Ministry of Health monitors the case detected in the country.
How many cases of monkeypox are there in the world?
According to the latest report from the World Health Organization, since last May 7, when the first case of the virus out of Africa, 92 laboratory-confirmed cases and 28 suspected cases have been detected.
These are registered in at least 15 non-endemic countries, mainly in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Canada, the United States, Australia, Sweden, France, Belgium and Germany.
