The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodriguez Larretaassured that in case of being elected president in 2023, he will apply a labor and pension reformand warned that this requires “change the legislation.”
“We have to rethink the labor system. There are people who work from home, at night, with more flexible hours,” Larreta said in statements to radio Miter.
The Buenos Aires president added that “this requires changing the legislation” and estimated that “just as we are, jobs are not generated, there is no stable and private job in Argentina.”
He also considered that “for the fiscal balance to be sustainable over time, the pension system must be rethought.”
He was in favor of a tax system that “promotes employment” and said that it is not acceptable that “taking a worker costs a fortune.”
Larreta also affirmed that it is necessary to introduce modifications in the operation of some public companies, indicating that YPF should function “like a private company“, while in relation to Aerolineas Argentinas, he said that competition in the cabotage market should be increased so that “many companies come to fly to Argentina.”
Claiming the policy of “open skies” in terms of flights that was implemented during the Government of Mauricio Macri, he maintained that “with Airlines we must fly more” and stated that today Argentina has “half the flights that in 2019 “.
Regarding the state oil company, he remarked that “it can be state-owned, obviously, but it has to function as a private company” because “it is the only way to obtain investment, and YPF requires a huge investment.”
In another order, he questioned the Government by affirming that “we have never been as unitary as now” and expressed that “Kirchnerism concentrated a lot of power in the national Government to hold them all.”
In this sense, he pointed out that “there are governors who seem more like delegates of the national government than an autonomous province.”
He raised the opposition tone
In marking his differences with the Casa Rosada, Rodríguez Larreta stated: “I am never going to agree with the entire government-Kirchnerist space.”
“These are people who chose to close the schools and who used the excuse of the pandemic to open the prisons,” said the mayor of Buenos Aires.
He stressed that, in his opinion, the Government of Alberto Fernández “closed Argentina to the world and its only relationship is with Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, and it had a totally ambiguous relationship with respect to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
In economic matters, he affirmed that he cannot come to an agreement with a government that “believes that inflation will go down with price controls.”
Finally, he expressed that the opposition will not accompany the Government in Parliament in the event that an increase in withholdings on exports from the agricultural sector is promoted.
“There is no need to increase withholdings,” said Larreta, specifying that he is “concerned” that “the government has that initiative.”
