At least four people died and about 80 were trapped under the rubble in the collapse of a building under construction in southwestern Iran, public television reported.
“Parts of the 10-storey Metropol building in Abadan, the capital of Khuzestan province, have collapsed,” state television said, adding that the building was still under construction.
According to a preliminary report, at least “four people died and others 21 were injured.”explained Mojtaba Khaledi, spokesman for the national rescue service, quoted by the chain.
At least 80 people were still trapped under the rubble. Rescue dogs were deployed to find themindicated a local antenna of the Red Crescent.
The property is located on a busy street in Abadan, full of “commercial, health and office” premises, according to state television.
The causes of the collapse are being investigated.
