Blackouts give a break on the weekend

The “hateful” blackouts that have punished the population in recent days gave a truce over the weekend, when the reports of the citizens due to the cuts in the electrical service decreased.

People consulting in the Cibao area, where protests were staged last week due to the lack of service, told Diario Libre that between Saturday and the early hours of Sunday “the light has not gone out,” a common phrase with which It is called interruptions in the electricity service.

Residents of Montecristi and some sectors of Santo Domingo and the National District also said they had fewer service interruptions in the last two days, compared to the beginning of last week.

Just over the weekend, both last Friday and Saturday, the reports of the Coordinating Body of the Interconnected Electric System show a considerable decrease in the amount of energy not supplied to the population.

For both days, lack of generation is no longer reported, the main cause of the energy deficit that caused the blackouts in the previous days.

On Friday, the supply deficit compared to demand was less than 1,000 megawatts, of which 89% was linked to internal problems of the distribution companies, while the remaining 11% was due to transmission problems. Already on Saturday the deficit fell to less than 300 megawatts, attributed, in similar proportions, to these same causes.

Just that day, the spokesman for the Presidency, Homer Figueroaannounced to the country that the electrical system was returning to normality and attributed it to the start-up of several generation plants and stations.

He detailed the entry into operation of the Estrella del Mar III floating plant, with a capacity of 146 megawatts (MW); 100 MW from Falcondo; 100 MW from Barrick, 50 MW from Sultana del Este; the reintegration of Haina TG with 85 MW, as well as an increase in the dispatch of hydroelectric generation by 200 MW.

He is a journalist at Diario Libre.
