Santo Domingo. The general director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, exhorted this Sunday not to be “sold dreams” by those who governed the country for the last 20 years.

“Don’t let the 20 years of the past come to sell dreams to those neighborhoods,” the official proclaimed during a meeting with community members, merchants, religious leaders, activists, students and athletes from the sectors of district 3 of the National District.

At the event, Sanz Lovatón heard their satisfaction with the current government, as well as the aspects they want to improve.

Accompanied by representatives in Congress of those demarcations, and officials from various government entities, the director of Customs demonstrated with figures how, through subsidy and social assistance programs, the Central Government has positively impacted the lives of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the capital .

After listening to the needs of 19 community leaders, Sanz Lovatón promised to be closer and more present in these sectors, as well as to meet again in the same place in 45 days to respond to those demands.

“We are here, convened with the congressmen, with the aldermen, seeing the works that the city council has to do, which, in this case, is the mayor and general secretary of the ruling party, we are in that effort, because we came to change the Republic Dominican, we are changing it and we are going to achieve it”, he expressed.

The commission explained that the Government has benefited Dominicans both with direct measures and/or focused on their socioeconomic condition or the demarcation in which they reside, as well as with national decisions.

Among the targeted programs are those of conditional transfers such as Supérate, Aliméntate, Bonogas, Bono Luz, Learn and Advance.

They also highlighted general measures such as the fuel subsidy, for which the Dominican State has spent more than fifteen billion pesos, minimizing the increase in its prices and in the activities that are impacted by it, such as: transportation, services and basic products.

Participating in the activity were the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, the general director of Public-Private Partnerships, Sigmund Freud, the deputies Ramón Bueno, José Miguel Cabrera and Goris Borja, as well as councilors from the Mayor’s Office of the National District and officials from the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD), José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, director of the DNCD, the Ministry of Public Health, the Social Cabinet, among others.

While the community members, spokespersons for neighborhood councils and presidents of neighborhood councils demanded asphalt, equipment for members of the National Police in the area, remodeling of clubhouses and improvement of the electricity and water distribution networks, among other latent needs in the demarcation.
