Fire personnel intervened this Sunday at dawn to stop the fire of a two-story house located in Parque Guaraní, in the Maroñas neighborhood, reported Montevideo Portal and confirmed The Observer.

The fire, which started around 6 p.m. caused the death of two people – a 1 year and 10 month old baby and her 29 year old mother – who were inside the home and were transferred to the Mechelen sanatorium. Both died within minutes of being assisted.

In the house there was also a five-month-old baby, who remains in a delicate condition at the Pereira Rossell hospital, according to Firefighters.

Due to the magnitude of the fire, a large concentration of smoke was generated in the area, forcing the firefighters to require the help of a crew from Casavalle. Officials used a tanker truck to stop the burning.

The causes of the crash are still unknown.
