The director of electoral processes of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice, Carlos María Ljubetic, told Radio Ñanduti that according to the series of requirements added by the Political Financing Law, the call for elections in Pedro Juan Caballero to elect a new mayor , after the death of José Carlos Acevedo, could only be carried out in 120 days. For the time being, the president of the Municipal Board, Carolina Yunis de Acevedo, will take over as community chief.
According to Ljubetic, the president of the Municipal Board will have to call elections among peers for the elections to take place, since she will be interim mayor. However, if she or another aedile is appointed, she will remain in her position.
Ljubetic also mentioned that a call and a feasible calendar that can be met must be carried out so that the elections are called in 90 days, but reiterated that taking into account the new requirements included in the Political Financing Law, a minimum of 120 days are needed to that the elections take place.
He pointed out that there are deadlines that must be met and that among the requirements are the internships between the candidates and the presentation of their affidavit. “It is a long process that is currently required by law, in 90 days it is impossible,” she said.
