Alberto Fujimori will testify before the Public Ministry in the framework of the investigation into the deaths of journalist Melissa Alfaro and Víctor Hugo Ruiz, which occurred in October 1991, as a result of an envelope bomb explosion.
The Third Supraprovincial Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of Lima issued the corresponding summons so that Fujimori’s statement can be made virtually, through the Google Meet platform, on June 23, according to the Andina news agency.
Fujimori has been included as being investigated in this case because he is considered the alleged direct perpetrator of crimes against life, body and health, in the form of qualified homicide, to the detriment of Alfaro and Ruiz.

Both people died when the first one opened an envelope that had a bomb inside. Alfaro was inside the premises of the “Cambio” newspaper, where she worked as head of information, while Ruiz was on the outskirts of it. The newspaper “La República” reported that the outlet where Alfaro worked was considered the spokesperson for the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA).

Similar attacks with explosives received that year the then parliamentarian Ricardo Letts and the doctor and human rights activist, Alejandro Zúñiga.
These two cases are also the subject of the preliminary investigation initiated against Alberto Fujimori. In this regard, he is attributed the alleged commission of the crime of attempted homicide, understood as a crime against humanity.
Other proceedings on this case will be carried out on May 31, the date on which the prosecution plans to collect the testimonial statements of the former head of the National Intelligence Service, Víctor Raúl Silva, and the military officer Rafael La Rosa.

The Fourth Transitory Penal Chamber of the National Superior Court also plans to start the oral trial for the deaths of Alfaro and Ruiz on June 23.
In this process, the defendants are Víctor Penas, a former soldier who is held responsible as the alleged direct perpetrator. Also against Vladimiro Montesinos, Julio Salazar and Pedro Villanueva, identified as alleged perpetrators of the aforementioned attack.
Fujimori is hospitalized
Fujimori was transferred to a clinic after suffering a decompensation last Friday.
The former president was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the EsSalud hospital in Ate Vitarte to the Centenario Clinic.
EsSalud reported that Fujimori was treated for decompensated atrial fibrillation.
