The Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, recalled, in dialogue with El Observador, the former Minister of the Interior Jorge Larrañaga and assured: “He put all his passion into everything he did”.
“He had a sense of a very committed party man and he knew how to demonstrate it throughout his career,” he indicated and highlighted his commitment to an integrated country: “He never abandoned the look of a country that has to have decentralized policies”assured.
Personally, Argimón described him as “a loyal companion and friend of his friends”. “He died when he was in a full moment of his personal and political life”reflected the vice president and affirmed that even today within the ruling party her absence seems strange to them. “In all of us there were always many expectations in what Jorge did, he is really missed a lot”, concluded.

The National Party called to honor Jorge Larrañaga one year after his death. According to the statement from the political force, this place was chosen because it was built when Larrañaga was mayor of Paysandú.
Last Tuesday, May 17, his son, Jorge Larañaga Vidal, attended the session of the General Assembly in recognition of Larrañaga, which was also attended by former presidents Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera and Julio María Sanguinetti.
“Today I am entering the Chamber of Deputies again, so the emotion is double. I take it as a sign that the old man continues to accompany me in every step I take,” Jorge Larrañaga Vidal assured Azul FM.

On the other hand, this Monday at 12:30 there will be a session in tribute to the deceased Minister of the Interior in the Directory of the National Party.
The former Minister of the Interior died on May 22, 2021 due to cardiac arrest and was buried on May 24 in the Paysandú cemetery, his hometown. The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, was present there, and described the Minister of bastion for the government, for his dedication to comply with the law and the people. “Political activity is to widen the heart, it is an act of generosity, (…) it is that non-blood family that is the homeland,” he reflected.
