As a way of removing the issue of invisibility and promoting confrontation and awareness, the Federal Government launched the May Orange National Campaign this month. The National Secretary for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of the MMFDH, Maurício Cunha, is the interviewee of the Brazil on the agenda this Sunday (22) and will talk about it. The program airs at 7:30 pm on TV Brazil.

“One of the great advances of this year 2022 is the National Plan to Combat Violence [contra Crianças e Adolescentes]. Despite children being such a victim of violence here in our country, Brazil still did not have a structured, systematized plan, with objectives, with clear goals that would make this confrontation happen”, explained Maurício Cunha about the plan, which was released on the 18ththe date that marks the National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents.

During the interview, the secretary clarifies that there are different types of violence against children and adolescents. Although they are of the same nature, they can have different shapes. “By the legislation itself, we have at least five types of typified violence. We can divide sexual violence into sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation, which is even important for the public to understand, they are two very different types of violence, of the same nature. Abuse is usually within the family, it occurs in the domestic environment, and sexual exploitation has commercial purposes. In addition to this violence, we have physical violence, psychological violence and institutional violence. And we didn’t have a plan that covered all these situations”, clarified the secretary.

The National Plan to Combat Violence against Children and Adolescents (PLANEVCA) was prepared in conjunction with the ministries of Citizenship (MCid), Education (MEC), Health (MS), Justice and Public Security (MJSP) and Tourism. (MTur) as part of the deliveries of the Maio Laranja Campaign. There are approximately R$ 109 million in investment by the Federal Government in the plan.

In the interview, the National Secretary for the Rights of Children and Adolescents will also talk about fighting violence against children that takes place in the virtual environment and the importance of family surveillance.

“So, basically, the great guiding principle is the watchful and careful look of the family. And as a State, as a public power, we are also taking the necessary measures, with the Federal Police, from time to time a new operation is unleashed, this is available to society”.

Other public actions and policies, such as Protege Brasil and the National Observatory for Children and Adolescents, are also on the agenda of the interview. “We are working to bring children to the center of the public agenda, actually fulfilling what the Constitution already says: children as an absolute priority”, emphasized secretary Maurício Cunha.
