The government of Luis Lacalle Pou accepted an offer from the company JIRKEL SA which, under the name of MVD 360, is going to appropriate some 36 hectares of water surface in front of the Puerto del Buceo for the construction of a private artificial island for the docking of about 300 boats in which there will also be vehicle traffic.

The project, in itself, is behind schedule, so the procedures with the Ministry of the Environment for the respective environmental impact studies have not been initiated. The mentioned weekly found that JIRKEL SA was created in 2021, but the project website, www.MVD360.com, does not exist and the portal for buying and selling GoDaddy web domains offers to buy it when you enter the address.

Ignacio Muñoz, one of the directors of JIRKEL SA told the newspaper The country that the entire project would occupy “a fraction of the riverbed (channel) of the Río de la Plata in front of the Punta Gorda boulevard”, and that everything will revolve around the marina that will have mooring services, launching, stranding and spaces for sports nautical He added that there will be some spaces “totally open to all Montevideons” that will be next to the 36 lots that are private.
This type of project does not exist in Uruguay, so the company hopes that the Municipality of Montevideo and the Departmental Board approve a special urban code for its construction.
