Today is the Day: week brings dates on adoption, biodiversity and glaucoma

The end of May brings warnings about important issues for all Brazilians: encouraging adoption, preserving biodiversity and fighting a disease that is the main cause of irreversible blindness: glaucoma. The dates will be remembered in the next few days, and will affect the Today is the day From this week.

National Adoption Day is celebrated on May 25th. The date was established in 2002, six years after the I National Meeting of Associations and Support Groups for Adoption, how does this episode of the History Todayaired in 2017 by National Radio Agency. Because of this, black or brown children, over three years old, who have siblings or who have a disability face more barriers in the search for a home. And today (22) is celebrated the International Day of Biological Diversity – an alert from the United Nations (UN) on the importance of preserving this diversity. Biodiversity is the wealth of the Brazilian territory, which has six biomes: Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Pampa, Amazon, Pantanal and Cerrado. The 26th marks the fight against a disease that is most responsible for the irreversible loss of vision in the world. Glaucoma is often a silent disease, but it can be fought with early diagnosis and treatment. And one of the simplest ways to prevent the disease from getting worse is to go to the eye doctor often – the recommendation is that you go at least once a year. On the 28th, the International Day of Struggle for Women’s Health draws attention to the fight against the diseases that most affect the female audience. On the same day, the National Day of Struggle for the Reduction of Maternal Mortality highlights the importance of prenatal care and postpartum care for the health of the mother and baby. The importance of a quality health system, with sufficient beds and monitoring of pregnant women are also requirements to reduce the number of deaths of women during pregnancy, labor and the puerperium. For lovers of the nerd world and works of fiction, the week is full of remarkable dates. 45 years ago, on May 25, 1977, the first film by Star Wars (Star Wars, in Portuguese). The success of Episode IV – yes, the fourth episode in the chronological order of the saga was the first to hit the screens -, called A new hopereached intergalactic levels.

And to toast the fans, in 2021, the program Clapperboard, gives Radio MECbrought the soundtrack – nominated for an Oscar 2020 – from the last film in the series: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker:

Nerd Pride Day is also celebrated on the 25th precisely because it is the day the world was introduced to Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and so many iconic characters. The date is also called Towel Day, in allusion to the book Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams, also worshiped by fans of the nerd world. The work preaches that the towel “is one of the most useful objects for an interstellar backpacker”, so it became a symbol of tributes to the writer after his death on May 11, 2001. Still in the world of works and characters that marked generations, 125 years ago, on May 26, one of the most famous vampires in the world appeared: Dracula, by Bram Stoker. Despite being released in 1897, the story gained more relevance in 1931, with the film Drácula, starring the Hungarian actor Béla Lugósi. And speaking of Dracula, who also shone in the role was actor Christopher Lee. On May 27, we celebrate 100 years of the birth of the artist who unites supporters of nerd culture, fans of horror works and several lovers of fiction with memorable appearances. Lee starred in the movie Dracula – The Prince of Darknessparticipated in the saga Star Wars and gave life to the villain Saruman, from the trilogies Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. He passed away in 2015.
