Geneva, Switzerland.- The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed his congratulations to Dominican President Luis Abinader for his government’s handling of the covid-19 pandemic.
At the conclusion of the first work meeting in Geneva, the president was satisfied with the recognition that health authorities worldwide gave him for the leadership of the Dominican Republic against covid, who highlighted the low fatality rate due to COVID-19. this disease registered in the country.
Similarly, various topics were addressed for future projects, such as the development of vaccines and medical devices in the Dominican Republic with the support and advice of both the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
At the meeting, the Dominican head of state also emphasized the health policy being carried out by his government, highlighting the affiliation of 2.3 million Dominicans to the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa), thus guaranteeing universal access to health.
Among the challenges to be faced, Abinader cited the need to improve primary care levels to raise health indicators and requested international support to help Haiti improve its current health situation.

Also participating in the meeting were the executive director of the WHO Health Emergency Program, Dr. Michael J. Ryan; the regional director of the WHO, Dr. Carissa F. Etienn; and the WHO Chief of Staff, Dr. Catharina Boehme.
