Cuba won its first medals at the Ibero-American Athletics Championships taking place in Alicante, Spain, thanks to runner Shainer Reginfo and jumper Maykel Massó, who won gold and silver, respectively.
In the case of Reginfo, bronze medalist in the hectometer in the last youth world championship, he won with a time of 10.15 seconds to beat the Brazilian Felipe Bardi (10.26) and the Argentine Franco Florio (10.31), stand out Island state media.
In the case of Massó, Olympic bronze in the long jump at Tokyo 2020, now in Spain he stretched up to 8.03 meters, just two centimeters less than the host Eugenio Cáceres, winner with 8.05 meters in his only valid attempt, while the Cuban remained stable with another jump of 8.02 m.
In the long jump event, the other Cuban in competition was the young Maikel Vidal, who finished sixth with a record of 7.89 m on a podium that filled Spain almost completely with the bronze of the local Héctor Santos.

The women’s javelin was the other final that saw Cuban participation on the date, where the Cuban Yiselena Ballar finished close to the medals with her fourth place, thanks to the 56.14 m mark reached in the fair, where the Ecuadorian Juleysi won medals. Anahí Angulo, national record of 60.91 m; Colombian Flor Denis Ruiz (60.52 m) won silver and Brazilian Jucilen Sales (57.86 m) won bronze.
