The misty and hot environment this Friday will prevail in the weather conditions this Saturday due to the incidence of a high pressure system and the concentration of dust from the Sahara, reported the National Meteorological Office (Onamet).
The permanence of an atmosphere with limited humidity content and moderate values of Saharan dust will cause high temperatures and scarce rains over the Dominican territory. The Onamet also indicated that in the morning hours some isolated showers could occur towards the eastern plain and the Caribbean coastline.
At the end of the afternoon, the occurrence of “isolated cloudy with downpours, thunderstorms, locally strong gusts of wind and possible hailstorms is expected, over some points in the regions: northwest, the border area, eastern plain and the Central Cordillera; associated with the presence of a trough and local effects”.
The recommendations of the meteorological agency to the population due to the high temperatures during the day are:
· Drink enough fluids.
· Wear light clothing preferably light colors.
· Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays without protection, the elderly and children are the most susceptible.
Regarding the Saharan dust that has been affecting since last Wednesday, the entity warned that larger particles are expected in the months of June, July and August, which could generate the risk of respiratory infections, eye irritation, among others.
