Cuban canoeists Yurisleidis Cirilo and Khaterin Nuevo stood out this Friday during the first day of the Race World Cup, in the Czech Republicby advancing to the finals A of the single-seater canoe (C-1) and the two-seater (C-2).
Cirilo and Nuevo moved on to the medal discussion this Sunday, by dominating their respective heats of preliminaries of the C-1 at 200 meters, with times of 45.26 and 46.14 seconds, respectively, according to an office of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The report summarizes the data published on the website of the International Federation of raftingaccording to which the Cubans also agreed to dispute the title in the C-2 at 500 meters this Saturday, after crossing the finish line in second place in their series, with a time of 1:57.54 minutes, behind the Chinese Xu Shixiao and Sun Mengya (1:54:55 minutes).
For their part, the canoeists Seguei Torres and José Ramón Pelier will be in tomorrow’s semifinals of the C-1 at 1000 meters, finishing fifth in their qualifying tests, with times of 4:01.70 and 4:02.22 minutes, in that order, the publication refers.
In other results of the Cubans in the event, Pelier and Tabiani Álvarez finished in seventh place in the C-2 preliminaries at 500 meters (1:44.49 minutes) and will be in the Saturday semifinals in search of being included in the finals A or B, bound the ACN.
This Saturday, the report specifies, Cirilo and Nuevo will also seek a medal in the C-2 at 200 meters, a distance in which the organizers called a direct final.
The news agency points out that on Sunday, on the last day of the World Cup, Torres and Pelier will also compete, in the direct final of the C-1 at 5000 meters.
The agency recalls that before arriving in Recise, the Cubans completed a brief training base in the Polish city of Bidgostia, and that Alejandro Hanze, president and commissioner of the Cuban Federation of this sport, reiterated that good results are expected, including medals in the present contest.
