A presentation of the Eastern Metropolitan Corridor (CMDE) project was made to authorities and representatives of border agencies from Paraguay and Brazil.
The meeting was held on May 18 and 19 at the headquarters of the Customs Administration of the Km 12 Cargo Terminal – ALGESA, Ciudad del Este, department of Alto Paraná.
At the meeting, the progress in the construction of the Integration Bridge was announced, in addition to the technical details of the works currently carried out and those that are about to start.
Aspects related to the current situation of cargo truck transit, facilitation of transit over the International Friendship Bridge and future projects related to the operation of entry and exit from Paraguayan territory were also addressed.
The CMDE constitutes a set of complementary works to the Integration Bridge that will unite the border cities of Presidente Franco (Paraguay) and Foz de Iguazú (Brazil).
It is made up of three main axes: rural access, urban access and the bridge over the Monday River, involving the towns of Presidente Franco, Ciudad del Este, Los Cedrales, Minga Guazú and Hernandarias.
For rural access, a 4-lane paved road is planned (Lots 1 and 2) that will have an extension of almost 31 km. This new highway will connect with the new border crossing, and includes its intersection with National Route PY02.
Regarding urban access or interconnection to the existing network, it is an asphalt paving work 4.6 km long, in the city of Presidente Franco. To this we must add access to the ANNP; road access to the second bridge over the Paraná River; the connection with rural access to the junction with the bridge to be built over the Monday River, as well as the reinforcement of temporary service roads.
