President Alberto Fernandez affirmed today that “something must be done so that the internal prices decouple from international prices” and said that “the way is the retentions“.
“But the withholdings are a legislative issue, and I need Congress to understand the problem and accompany it when necessary,” the president said in statements to Radio Con Vos, in which he added that “the people of the countryside interprets that it is a measure against them”.
Fernández assured that he will continue “fighting” so that the economic effects of the war in Ukraine “they do not negatively affect the Argentines” and, in that sense, he pointed out that he is exploring all the ways “to find mechanisms so that, internally, prices do not rise as international prices do.”
He affirmed that the retentions imply “a very sensitive issue for many sectors and it is politically exploited by the opposition” and maintained that he is exhausting “all the possibilities” that he has so that, “seeing the political difficulty, due to the way in which the opposition thinks, to be able to go down that lift”, and that it tries to “talk to all sectors, to find mechanisms so that prices do not rise internally like the international ones”.
The President said that the Government “protects and cares” for textile industry but with the rise in prices that they apply “they turn against the people.”
“There is a price rampage in this area. I protect them, I don’t let in processed products from China and prices don’t stop rising here,” he complained.
Fernandez stated that “the Argentine economy is on, it is working”but warned that “recovering real wages costs a lot of work.”
“We turned on the economy, it’s on and working, it’s developing but we’re not getting income distribution to improve and that’s why we’ve decided to keep parity open,” he said.
President attributed the delay in the start-up of the Wheat Stabilizer Fund to the resistance of the private sectorwho, he said, “extend the subject and are exaggerating a lot.”
He pointed out that “it is the private sector” that is delaying the start-up of the wheat trust, which will allow the industry to be offered flour at subsidized prices, decoupled from international values, which are marked by the impact of the war in Ukraine.
Fernandez stated that the Front of All has a “common look” about Argentina’s problems, but admitted that there are differences “on the roads” about how to deal with them.
“I am certain that we have a common view of what Argentina needs on the entire front,” said the President, adding: “We differ on the paths. It would make it difficult for me to see that we are going to different places, but we are discussing how to do it; in what to do, we all want the same thing”.
Fernandez said that, with the launch of new banknotes“our heroes and heroines are being put back” in them and, with this measure, Argentina recovers “social identity”.
“They are the men and women who made history. The whales, the sparrows and the little animals are leaving. With this we recover social identity,” he stressed about the announcement that will be formalized next Monday.
Fernández, on the Villa case: “We always have to stand by the victim”
The President said that “Argentine society cannot bear any more conduct” of sexual abuse and affirmed that “there is no possibility of admitting that someone because of their sex submits to another”.
“When it happens, we have to stand by the victim,” he said when asked about the Colombian soccer player Sebastian Villa who was accused in the case that investigates him for the sexual abuse of a young woman, which occurred in July of the year at her home in a country house in the Buenos Aires town of Canning.
Fernandez said that With Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner he has “no differences on substantive issues” and affirmed that his true opponents are the leaders who “only deny rights.”
“If I have to talk with Cristina, I talk. My problem is not Cristina, but it is to see that a right wing grows in the world that only denies rights. My opponents say on TV channels that we must end the Christmas bonus, compensation for dismissal, stop the parity. There are my opponents, with them I have to discuss and debate, “said the president.
